Former Mexico boss Diego Martin Cocca is set to take over as Real Valladolid manager.

Real Valladolid are closing in on a new manager to replace Paulo Pezzolano after owner Ronaldo Nazario reportedly opted for another experienced South American coach in 52-year-old Argentine coach Diego Martin Cocca, Ufabet reported on Wednesday.

Pezzolano was sack after the 5-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid two weeks ago, with B coach Alvaro Rubio taking charge on an interim basis for the Copa del Rey game against Real Avila and the 2-1 defeat at Las Palmas in La Liga.

Previously, Real Valladolid tried to approach several coaches, including Gabriel Heinze, Francisco Rodriguez, Antonio Hidalgo and Aitor Karanka, but all of them rejected the job from the ‘Blanquivioleta’ team.

Despite the 52-year-old having no experience on the European stage, having worked with several clubs in South America, including Godoy Cruz, Gimnasia La Plata, Defensa y Husticia, Huracan, Rosario Central, Racing Club, Santos Laguna, Club Tijuana, Atlas and Tigres, as well as the Mexican national team.

His achievements include the Argentine Primera División title at the helm of Racing Club -in his first stage-. He was also two-time Liga MX champion with Atlas , with whom he won the Apertura and Clausura tournaments.

The Argentine coach arrives at Real Valladolid accompanied by Marcelo Goux (assistant coach), Renso Valinoti (physical trainer) and Ignacio Laurino (analyst) . Álvaro Rubio will initially help Cocca so that the transition is as effective as possible.
